Jules Gosselet ( French Jules Gosselet , full name is Jules Auguste Alexandre Gosselet ; April 19 or August 19, 1832 , Cambrai - March 20, 1916 ) is a French geologist and paleontologist [5] .

Biography
Born April 19, 1832 in the city of Cambrai . His uncle is doctor Auguste Gossele ( Fr. Auguste Gosselet ), headed by the ; his father is a pharmacist from Landresy , he wanted his son to follow in his footsteps.
Jules Gossele studied at Landrecy College, then received a bachelor's degree from the Lycée Alcère Albert-Châtelet , but rather quickly retired from working in medicine in favor of the natural sciences. He lectured at the Lycée du Quesnoy , then he was a laboratory assistant and trained bachelors at the Faculty of Science at the Sorbonne in Paris, where he became interested in geology. He was noticed by Professor Louis Prevost , a world-famous geologist, who appointed him a geologist at the Sorbonne, becoming mentor to Gossel.
Gossel began his academic career in October 1852. In 1860 he defended his doctoral thesis “Mémoire sur les terrains primaires de la Belgique, des environs d'Avesnes et du Boulonnais” . Later he taught physics and chemistry at a secondary school in Bordeaux, and then taught science at the University of Poitiers . In 1864, he was appointed to the department of geology at the newly established faculty at the University of Lille .
In 1894, Jules Gossel was appointed President of the Geological Society of France . In 1902, he founded the Gossel Museum, dedicated to his mineralogical and paleontological collections. In 1913 he became a corresponding member of the French Academy of Sciences .
He died on March 20, 1916.
Memory
- In 1910, at the initiative of Gossel, a prize was established, named after him - the Gosselet Prix, which is awarded every four years for achievements in applied geology.
- In 1913, the Belgian mineralogist Jean Anten was named after the French scientist mineral mineral gosselit. [6]
- The streets in Lille and Douai are named after Jules Gossel.
