“Welcome to Zombieland 2” ( eng. Zombieland: Double Tap ) is an upcoming American horror comedy film directed by Ruben Fleischer . Direct sequel to the Welcome to Zombieland movie. In the US, the film will be released on October 18, 2019 [2] .

Story
The main characters will again fight with the army of zombies, which this time evolves and will become even more bloodthirsty. Along the way, with the struggle with the revived dead, they will have to solve the growing problems within their own collective [3] .

Production
Development
In the wake of the “ Welcome to Zombiland ” success, authors Paul Wernick and Ratt Reese planned a possible continuation with a variety of ideas that they wanted to use in the sequel [6] . Woody Harrelson said he did not think back in the continuation. Wernick said he plans to return Jesse Eisenberg , Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin for the sequel and that they still have tons of new ideas floating in their heads. In addition, the authors want to turn the comedy into a solid franchise [7] . Therefore, they filmed a pilot issue of the same-name television series, in which other actors were filmed and which was released in April 2013 on Lovefilm and Amazon Video [8] [9] [10] .
Reese and Wernick do not want to reveal any potential points of the plot of the sequel "Welcome to Zombiland." They do not plan to immediately film a sequel, because both are actively involved in other projects [7] . The original cast and director are ready to return, with Fleisher enthusiastically referring to the idea of continuing into 3D [11] [12] . In February 2010, Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg confirmed their return in the second film [13] . In 2010, Fleisher declared that he was writing the script [14] and that the creators began to search for new stars for various cameo [15] .
In July 2011, Jesse Eisenberg said that he was “not sure what was going on” with the sequel, but the authors are working on the “Welcome to Zombiland 2” script, Eisenberg expressed concern that the sequel will no longer be “relevant” [16] . Woody Harrelson said he also did not dare to return in the sequel [17] .
In February 2016, it was announced that Reese and Wernick were shooting a sequel [18] . In August 2016, Reese and Wernicke confirmed that they were still working on “Zombiland 2” and met with Woody Harrelson to discuss the film, saying that the whole cast was quite excited [19] .
In March 2017, it turned out that the script for “Welcome to Zombiland 2” was completed [20] . In May 2018, Woody Harrelson confirmed that "Welcome to Zombiland 2" is likely to be withdrawn [21] .
Preliminary preparation
On July 13, 2018, Sony Pictures officially unveiled “Welcome to Zombiland 2”. Rubin Fleisher will return to leadership, while Eisenberg, Harrelson, Stone and Breslin will repeat their roles [22] .
In November 2018, Zoe Deutsch and Evan Jogia joined the cast [23] [24] . In January 2019, Rosario Dawson joined the cast of the film. [25] Thomas Middleditch and Luke Wilson also joined the cast in February. [26]
Shooting
Filming began on January 21, 2019 in Atlanta , Georgia [27] and was completed on March 15, 2019 [28] .
Marketing
On July 25, 2019, Sony Pictures published on its Youtube channel the first trailer for the second part, “Welcome to Zombiland” [29] .
Rental
Initially, the release of the film in the American rental was scheduled for October 11, 2019, to the tenth anniversary of the release of the original film [1] , but later the premiere was postponed to October 18.
