Born in 1810 in the Kherson province in the family of Archpriest Karp Stefanovich Pavlovsky (1767-1832) - rector of the Cathedral of the Assumption Church of Elisavetgrad [1] .

After graduating from the Kiev Theological Academy , where he was awarded the master 's degree in theology , on October 4, 1833 he was determined as a law teacher at the Richelieu Lyceum . Also, from May 20, 1834 to November 25, 1838 he corrected the position of law teacher and rector of the church at the Odessa Institute of Noble Maidens . He was ordained to the priesthood on December 26, 1835 .

Since 1838, Pavlovsky was the law teacher at the Lyceum Gymnasium (until 10.11.1843), and at the Lyceum on September 30 he was confirmed as professor of theology and rector of the Lyceum church. With the abolition of the Department of Philosophy at the Lyceum in 1850, he began to teach over theology, psychology and logic. He also taught at other educational institutions in Odessa . Since 1849, he was the dean of law teachers in secular educational institutions of Odessa.

With the transformation of the lyceum into a university, he remained a professor of theology until 1873. In August – November 1868, he served as rector of the Odessa Theological Seminary [2] . University professor A. I. Markevich recalled:

I cannot call Pavlovsky’s lectures otherwise than conversations on the most important issues of the religious and moral life of modern Russia and Western Europe. While attending a lecture by Professor Pavlovsky, the listener could not imagine what he would be talking about: maybe about Turgenev’s newly released novel or about a charity that had just been established in France; he could only expect one to hear a lively and interesting lecture.

Upon leaving the university, he was a cathedral archpriest. However, six months later, with a deterioration in health, he was dismissed by petition and, as a non-staff archpriest, was assigned to the Alexander Nevsky Church of Novorossiysk University.

The University Council, in connection with the fiftieth anniversary of the service of the Honored Professor Pavlovsky in the priesthood, on December 20, 1885 unanimously elected him an honorary member of Novorossiysk University.

As a preacher, Archpriest Pavlovsky was very popular in Odessa. “ Odessa Herald ” wrote about the publication of Pavlovsky’s sermons:

We hasten to announce the publication of this wonderful book, long eagerly awaited by numerous admirers of its eloquent author. In every word, in every speech of his, of which the congregation has hitherto come to light ... everywhere you will find a thought over which the pious attention of the listener or reader cannot but stop, and this thought is exposed by the always alive, often fascinating word, which involuntarily makes everyone delve into her, to enter into himself and not to pass by the exhortations of a gifted preacher ...

His "Words and Speeches" were published (Odessa: type. Frantsova and Nitsche, 1851. - 364 p.), Welcoming speeches - in the annual acts of the Richelieu Lyceum for 1834, 1835, 1838, etc .; more than 60 speeches of Pavlovsky on various occasions were published in the Odessa Herald, the Kherson Diocesan Vedomosti (since 1860), and the Notes of Novorossiysk University . Under the editorship of M.K. Pavlovsky, a number of articles translated from French were published in the Kherson Diocesan Sheets.

Governor-General of the Novorossiysk Territory M.S. Vorontsov trusted Pavlovsky with the religious education of his son Semyon Mikhailovich .

Archpriest M.K. Pavlovsky was awarded such high awards that representatives of the court white clergy usually awarded: in addition to the miter , the Order of St. Anna of the 1st degree and St. Vladimir of the 2nd degree.

A few years before the death of M.K. Pavlovsky completely lost his sight. He died on March 16 ( 28 ), 1898 . He was buried in the old Odessa cemetery . At Novorossiysk University, Pavlovsky's daughter instituted a scholarship to his name.
