The emblem of Baden comes from the personal emblems of the Margraves and the Grand Dukes of Baden , the traditional rulers of the region [1] . After the revolution and the abolition of the Grand Duchy in 1918, the new republic pursued the use of shield holders and other old symbols that could represent the people and country.

History
The Baden House is the youngest branch of the Zeringen house , connected by dynastic marriages with the Hohenstaufen family. The founder of the Baden house was Herman I of Baden , Margrave of Verona, the son of Bertold I , Duke of Carinthia , he lived in the XI century. The coat of arms of the Tseringen house has the same colors as its younger branch, however, a red eagle is depicted on the yellow shield. The first image of the coat of arms with the right band dates back to 1243, but perhaps it has already been used before [2] . In the Weinbergen coat of arms, compiled in 1265-1270, the coat of arms “le margreue de badene” is described as “d'or à la bande de gueules” (“scarlet right band in a golden field”) [3] . Griffin shield holders were later added to the composition by Margrave Philip I in 1528 .
