Biography
Childhood
Pierre-Louis was born on October 12, 1947 in the commune of Bains (Bain) ( French Bainet ; Hait . Creole. Benè ), near the city of Jacmel . He did not receive enough education, but it is known that he developed creatively: he independently learned to play the violin and drums, studied painting.
As a child, he helped his father, a hungan (clergyman in the voodoo religion), in the preparation of ceremonies. At the age of sixteen he moved to the capital, Port-au-Prince . There he worked at several jobs.
Career start
Later, working as a waiter in the house of Fashion Robard, he joined the popular community “ Saint Soleil ” ( Russian Holy Sun ), which brought together many poor artists, singers, dancers, artisans, painters, etc.
Prosper followed Mod when he moved to Soisson-la-Montagne, in a house on the mountain, where he later painted, thanks to which he became one of the most prominent artists of not only the community, but the whole of Haiti.
Saint Soleil did not exist for a long time; a few years later it broke up. After that, Prosper and four other prominent Haitian artists joined together in the Cinq Soleils group ( Russian Five Suns ).
After several years of work, the Pierre-Louis technique developed significantly, and he became a prominent and respected member of the local art community.
Death
His thriving career ended abruptly due to premature death from an asthma attack in November 1997. At that time he was 50 years old.
The paintings of Prosper Pierre-Louis were sold by the local charity community, the proceeds from which were sent to patients in the city of Deschapelles . The artist's works are included in the collection of Olivier Doria d'Angri.
