Biography
Born October 3, 1790 in Norwich , England .
He was mostly self-taught. He studied by 1804 as a manufacturer of woven materials and paper . A taste for serious research was caused by Samuel by his masters - Alderman John Herring and Joseph John Gurney . Interested in geology and archeology, Woodward began to form his own collection, which after his death was acquired for the museum in Norwich.
In 1820, he was promoted to clerk at the Norwegian bank Gurney's Bank (later Barclays Bank). At Norwich, (an antique dealer) and Dawson Turner (a banker and a botanist ), both members of the Royal Society of London , encouraged his scholarly work.
Samuel Woodward became the author of several works, including:
- A Synoptical Table of British Organic Remains (1830),
- An Outline of the Geology of Norfolk (1833),
- The Norfolk Topographer's Manual (1842),
- The History and Antiquities of Norwich Castle (1847).
He died on January 14, 1838 in England.
