Biography
Prince of origin and retired staff captain of the guard. Freelance student of the Imperial Academy of Arts . A good acquaintance with military life, knowledge of military affairs and further brought the artist success in battle themes. During his studies, he received awards from the Academy of Arts: a small silver medal (1850) for the paintings βCamp in the field with military figuresβ and βLancers in the parking lotβ , a large silver medal (1851) for the work βSoldier on the Campaignβ , a small gold medal (1852) ) for the work βDeath of Major General Sleptsovβ , and finally a large gold medal and the title of a class artist (1853) for the battle canvas βAttack of the Muslim Regiment in the Battle of Debrecinβ . In 1855, Vasily Nikolayevich went on a postponed retirement trip abroad. The creative line of the painter was determined for all subsequent years.
The State Russian Museum stores the landscape of Maksutov βOn arable landβ (1882), as well as the work βWorkshop of the artist VN Maksutovβ (1858) with A. F. Chernyshev and A. P. Bogolyubov . In the State Museum of A. S. Pushkin is his work "Interior of the Cabinet" (1847). [2]
