Hanai, Said

Hanai was born in 1962, lived in the city of Mashhad . He was married, had three children and worked as a bricklayer. By his own admission, Hanai wanted to clear the streets of Mashhad from prostitution and other dirt. He stated that he was prompted by vigorous action by the fact that his wife was once mistaken for a prostitute on the street ^[2] . He began to kill since August 2000 . All of his victims were prostitutes and drug addicts. Many left small children ^[3] .

The criminal situation in general is characteristic of Mashhad, however, the killings of the "spider maniac" produced an unprecedented resonance in the city. The city authorities organized a big round-up and removed more than 500 prostitutes from the streets of Mashhad ^[4] .

During the trial of Hanai, many residents of Mashhad defended the killer ^{[1] [3]} . He was called a fighter against corruption and corruption, and Hanai's lawyer volunteered to defend him ^[5] . At the trial, his minor son spoke in defense of Hanai.

Unlike other famous serial killers of Iran, such as Muhammad Bijo and Ismail Jafarzadeh Hanai was executed in prison, not publicly. He was hanged in the early hours of April 8, 2002. ^{[6] [7] [8]}
