Biography

Born on February 15 ( February 28 ), 1909 in Sarapul (now Udmurtia ).

  • Since 1930, he worked in the coal industry system: shift engineer of a mine, design engineer of a design and research institute, chief engineer of a mine, chief engineer of a trust, director of the Krasnaya Zarya plant.
  • In 1933 he graduated from the SGI .
  • Since January 1946, a member of the board of the People's Commissariat (ministry) of coal industry in the eastern regions of the USSR.
  • Since January 1949, a member of the Bureau of Fuel and Transport at the Council of Ministers of the USSR to verify the implementation of government decisions on the coal industry.
  • Along with economic activity in 1950 - 1956 he worked as a professor at the Academy of Coal Industry.
  • Since February 1951, deputy minister of paper and woodworking industry of the USSR for personnel.
  • On October 23, 1953 he was elected a corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences in the department of technical sciences.
  • Since December 1953, a member of the Bureau of Metallurgy, Coal Industry and Geology under the Council of Ministers of the USSR.
  • From 1955 to 1964 he worked as deputy director and director of the IGDAN named after A. A. Skochinsky .
  • In May 1959 - June 1960, Chairman of the Council for Technical and Economic Expertise of the USSR State Planning Commission .
  • From 1961 to 1963 he was chairman of the State Committee of the Council of Ministers of the USSR on the fuel industry. Since 1963, Chairman of the State Committee for the Fuel Industry of the USSR State Planning Commission.
  • On June 29, 1962, he was elected a full member of the USSR Academy of Sciences in the department of technical sciences with a degree in mining.
  • Since 1966 - Member of the Presidium of the USSR Academy of Sciences.
  • Since 1967, he was the head of the sector of physical and technical mountain problems of the Institute of Physics of the Earth of the USSR Academy of Sciences, then the rector of the Academy of National Economy of the USSR and director of the Institute for the Problems of Integrated Subsoil Development of the USSR Academy of Sciences.

Member of the CPSU (b) since 1944. Member of the USSR Supreme Council of the 6th convocation (1962-1966).

He died on December 7, 1980 . He was buried on December 11 in Moscow at the Novodevichy Cemetery (plot number 9) [2] .

Scientific Achievements

The main scientific achievements of N.V. Melnikov is associated with the development of the theory of an open method of mining, crushing rocks by explosions, methods for determining the operating parameters of mining machines, and with the development of the mining industry. [3]

USSR Academy of Sciences in 1981 established a gold medal named after N. V. Melnikov, which is awarded for outstanding work in the field of integrated development of mineral resources. [6]
