At the end of February, a tournament in class “B” was held in Kazan . The winner was Shakhtar (Kemerovo) , who won a ticket to the class of the strongest.
For the first time, the players of the winning team received gold medals [1] . Hockey players of the teams that took second and third places were awarded silver and bronze tokens. In addition, first, second and third degree diplomas were awarded to the players of the winning teams, respectively. Hockey players of the Kemerovo “Miner” were also awarded with diplomas of the second degree [2] .
Rules
In the offseason, a major reorganization of the championship was carried out. The first group became known as class “A” and was expanded to 10 teams. For the first time, the All-Union Championship was held in the form of a two-round tournament. The worst class “A” team dropped out to class “B”.
The second group was renamed Class B and expanded to 12 teams. The composition of class “B” participants was formed on a new principle. First, draws were held for the championships and cups of Moscow, Leningrad and the Union republics, the best teams of these tournaments for certain quotas were among the participants of class “B”. At the first stage, 12 teams were divided into two subgroups. During the one-round tournament, in each group, three best teams were identified, which at the second stage fought for places from the first to sixth, and the three worst, playing the places from seventh to twelfth. The second stage was also held as a one-round tournament.
Members
According to the results of the last championship, the first group should have left Khabarovsk ODO and Tallinn DOF. However, in the offseason, it was decided to transform the formula of the championship, the result of which was the renaming of the first group to class “A” and an increase in the number of participants to 10 teams. In this regard, the Far Eastern and Estonian clubs were invited to keep their seats in the top division. As a result, the Khabarovsk army team were left in class “A”, and the Tallinn club refused to participate in all-Union championships. Arkhangelsk “Vodnik” and the Petrozavodsk team of ODO replenished class “A”, who took first and second places in the second group, respectively, and Nizhny Tagil “Metallurg”, which finished fourth in it - after the Dynamo Almaty.
The composition of the class “B” participants has undergone radical changes: according to the new Regulation on competitions, not one of the teams of the second group, with the exception of those transferred to class “A”, received the right to participate in the all-Union championship. The “B” class participants included teams that achieved success in the competitions of Moscow, Leningrad and the Union republics in the winter of 1955, including: the five best teams of the RSFSR championship, the two best teams of the Moscow championship (among those not represented in class “A”, Champion of Leningrad, cup holders of the Kazakh , Karelian-Finnish , Latvian and Ukrainian SSRs . The number of participants was increased from 8 to 12.
