Camponotus kefir

Camponotus kefir (lat.) - a species of ants of the genus Camponotus ( Camponotus ) (subgenus Tanaemyrmex ) from the subfamily Formicina (Formicinae). The species name is given by Mount Kefir (in Hebrew means “young lion”), where a type series was found. Endemic of Israel.

Middle East : Israel (Har Kefir) [1] .

Description

They differ from similar species in a brilliant body sculpture, in the absence of spaced hairs on the hind tibia, and two-tone color; hind tibia flattened with distinct longitudinal keel; cheeks with spaced hairs. Working ants are brown-black (chest, antennae and legs are brown, and the head and abdomen are brownish-black; legs and lower part of the chest are lighter to yellowish brown), have a length of 9.6-13.3 mm, head length = 2, 15-3.53 mm, head width = 1.33-3.36 mm [1] [2] [3] [4] .
