Overview

2160 year. Humanity colonized the Solar System and two political entities emerged: the Alliance, consisting of America, Australia, France, Spain, Italy, Japan, England, and the Coalition of Russia, China and other Asian countries. The game begins with a sudden attack on Fort Kennedy, where the peace treaty turns into bloodshed: all four inner planets are captured, including Earth itself, and the Italian and French fleets are completely lost. The Alliance fleet regroups on Triton , the satellite of Neptune , and tries to recover the lost territory. The player takes on the role of a novice pilot in the 45th International Volunteer Squadron under the command of Captain Robert Foster and wing commander Maria Enriquez aboard the British aircraft carrier ANS Reliant.

As in the case of Wing Commander: Prophecy , the pilot's flying ability is the only indicator by which success in the game and failure are measured naturally, although Starlancer does not have as many mission paths. As in Wing Commander I, the pilot can be promoted throughout the campaign; unlike WCI, their rank determines which fighters and missiles he can use during each mission. The game has a “virtual computer”, with which you can navigate in space and communicate with the NPC, including the closest crew members, whose reaction to you depends on your rank and status. The game uses text and video broadcasts of news to keep the player informed of the state of war. Players often fly alongside squadrons and pilots that they recently heard about in the news, providing a dose of “exposing celebrities,” and this gives the player the feeling of being only part of a much larger military effort.

The story of Starlancer continues in the Chris Roberts- Freelancer project, although these two representatives of the genre belong to different subgenres (the first is entirely focused on battles, and the second also includes an economic component, and the player can freely move around the game’s universe while he is not on a mission. )

Ships

The game allows the player to take control of 12 ships of the fighter class, which vary in speed, maneuverability, firepower, armor and shield power. Each has several hard points that can be used to mount weapons, such as guided missiles and mute missiles . Ships are awarded to the player as they earn achievements.
