Biography

Born in the family of Subotica lawyer Benedek Machkovic ( Horv. Benedek Mačković ) and Maria Vasash ( Hung. Vasas Mária ). From 1862, he studied at the Subotica Gymnasium, and then for another three years at the Higher Real School in Buda . After receiving a secondary education, in 1869, Zurich leaves, where he studies engineering. In 1872 he studied road construction and hydraulic engineering in Aachen . In 1873, he attended lectures on railway construction and bridge construction in Vienna . So without receiving a diploma of higher education, in 1874 he returned to Subotica, where he opened his own engineering bureau [1] .

From July 1, 1878 to December 31, 1879 and from July 1, 1884 to October 31, 1890, he served as chief engineer (architect) Subotica. At that time, he designed ten public buildings and a few dozen private objects [1] . In total, about 360 objects were built in his projects in Subotica and its surroundings, and more than 400 projects are kept in the Historical Archive of Subotica [2] .

In 1879 he founded the first brick factory in the city, which was located near the Senchansky cemetery. Demolished in 1930. Near the factory Machkovich built his house in the form of a tower [1] .

Personal Life

In 1877 he married Katarina Manoylovich (May 7, 1857 - April 22, 1920). Married were daughters Maria, Leon, Angel, Cornelia, Ana and son Benedek [1] .
