The population is 31 thousand people (as of 2010). Located on the Atlantic coast, in the area known as the Jersey Shore , south of New York, in a marine climate zone with mild winters (average January temperature approx. 0 ° C) and warm summers (average July temperature approx. 23 ° C); annual rainfall is about 1000 mm.
Since the 18th century, the area has been popular as a vacation spot with sea bathing; Long Branch is the country's oldest resort, and is still known as one of the best resorts on the east coast [4] . The first settlement was registered in 1668, on land acquired from the Delaware . The development of the summer climate resort began in the 1780s, the resort became especially popular during the gilded century , there was a summer residence of several US presidents. Long Branch was separated into a separate administrative unit from the Ocean Township in 1867, the status of the city since 1903.
The city has a wide sandy beach, many hotels, developed services for tourists. In addition, there are enterprises in the textile industry and electronics, a branch of the private university Monmouth University operates.
