“Symphonic movement No. 3”, unlike the first two pieces from the original “symphonic triad”, does not have the author's software decoding of the idea. In an interview, Honegger said that he didn’t have enough fiction for the third name and complained about the lack of attention to this composition, unlike Pacific 231 and Rugby, the embodiment of which was musically readily interpreted by the public and critics [2] :

"All such images served as the theme for the most thorough research. But how much my unfortunate “Symphonic movement No. 3” paid for its dry, unprofitable name! Only sometimes he was given a few fluent and not saying anything lines. The moral here is ... No, better not say anything. After all, I was also a music critic at one time, and it is not appropriate for me to speak ill of the profession with which I got my piece of bread!"

The form of the play is divided into two contrasting parts. The first part (Allegro marcato) is rhythmic and lively in nature close to Pacific and Rugby. The second part (Adagio) - “ embodying deep philosophical meditation, imbued with courageous mournful lyrics ”, with extensive melody is characteristic of the mature period of the composer's work [3] .
