Story
- Slogan : “A striking real story ...” ( A Remarkable true story ... )
On the eve of the Christmas holidays, Julia, along with her mother-ornithologist Maria Köpke, is in a hurry to Pucallpa to his father and husband - Hans-Wilhelm Köpke to celebrate holidays with the whole family. However, due to bad weather on the route, many flights, including the state airline Faucett canceled or rescheduled. The only flight ready to depart on time is the LP-508 of LANSA . LANSA enjoys a bad reputation, since a major disaster happened to one of her planes a year earlier, but in a hurry to meet her husband, Maria, contrary to his own advice, buys tickets for this flight. In addition to them, 84 more people do this, after which with 92 people aboard the Lockheed Electra it flies out of Lima. After passing the Andes, the pilots see a thunderstorm ahead, but underestimating its strength, the crew commander decides not to bypass the danger zone, but to follow through it. The airliner enters a thundercloud, where it begins to be thrown from side to side. Then lightning enters the right wing, causing a fuel explosion, after which the wing comes off. Due to the overloads that have arisen, the plane is torn to pieces, while Julianne, together with a chair, flies out and falls from a height of several kilometers into the forest.
When it becomes clear that the plane crashed, a large-scale search is organized, in which Hans-Wilhelm Köpke takes part, but all is in vain: the jungle is safely covered by debris, and therefore the latter are extremely difficult to notice.
Waking up, Julia realizes that she was alone and there is nobody around, and her mother disappeared. The girl's collarbone is broken and there are small cuts, but she is alive. Having found her half-eaten sandwich, the heroine reinforces herself and hopes that they will find her soon. However, over time, she realizes that there is nowhere to wait for help and hope only for herself. Hoping to find other survivors, she also recalls her father's instructions on how to get out of the forest. Following along the stream, and then the river, Julia begins to find individual debris and even some bodies of the dead, gradually realizing the danger of her situation: she miraculously survived in a terrible catastrophe, she was alone in the middle of the wild jungle full of snakes, spiders and other dangerous inhabitants and no one here will find. Making her way through the trees for several days, she hardly sleeps at night in a forest full of different animals, and in a dream recalls a happy life in civilization. Then she is forced to follow the river, teeming with crocodiles and snakes. Her wounds are festering, and every day she perceives as the last, but continues to move forward.
One day, Julia notices a boat on the water, which she first considers a mirage, but when she draws close, she is convinced of its reality. Then she finds a hut nearby, which she can hardly climb into and a weakened woman falls to the floor. Here she is found by local loggers who help the girl cleanse her wounds and satisfy her hunger. On the morning of the next day, Julianne was taken to a hospital, which was soon visited by Hans-Wilhelm Köpke. Having met with her father after a long separation, the girl tells him the tragic news - her mother died in a plane crash.

Filming
Pavilion shootings were performed for 12 weeks from October 9 to December 28, 1972 at the Chinechitt studio. Field shooting took place in Peru, mainly in Pucallpa.
The starring Susan Penhaligon performed various tricks herself. Director Giuseppe Skotese wanted to make an adventure film, but the budget allocated to the picture was rather meager. Because of this, some scenes had to be abandoned, thereby actually turning the survival of the heroine in the jungle into philosophical thoughts during the trip [2] . In addition, Skoteze liked to invite newcomers, almost people from the street, to his paintings, but in this film he went even further, inviting real participants in those events, including air traffic controllers, lumberjacks and even a priest, to play the roles of second and third plan
Criticism
In the 2000 documentary film “ Wings of Hope ” about Julianne Köpke, director Werner Herzog spoke very negatively about the Italian film, noting the poor play of the heroine, who always calls for help. Köpke herself noted with irony that the main character is rather clumsy, and the dangers in the jungle are shown hyperbolically , including allegedly dangerous encounters with a tarantula spider (for a person his bite is not fatal at all), crocodiles (according to Julia, the black caimans were afraid of her and dived into the water for salvation) and snakes (a meeting with them was not actually mentioned) [3] . The scenes with the cub of a monkey whom the heroine rescued, but who then left her, are fiction.
Impact
Larisa Savitskaya , who survived after falling from a height of more than 5 kilometers and was the only survivor of the plane crash , claimed that a year before the fateful flight she watched the film “Miracles still happen.” When the An-24 plane, on which the 20-year-old Larisa was flying with her husband, crashed in the air, Savitskaya, remembering the shots from the film, pressed herself into a chair. A fragment of the fuselage along with several seats fell on the trees, which softened the blow, so that the student, despite some injuries, was able to move. From the wreckage of the plane, she built a dwelling and spent two days in it before rescuers found her [4] [5] .
