History
The water tower in the city of Colmar is considered the oldest tower on the territory of Alsatian lands. It performed the function of regulating and distributing drinking water in the city in the 1880s. The tower was built in the neo-Gothic style , it is located on one of the highest points of the city. Such elevations were characteristic of Colmar at that time. The tower is 53 meters high and can hold up to 1200 meters of cubic water. Since 1984, the tower has not been used for its intended purpose, but attracts interest as an architectural object [1] .
The tower is surrounded by a garden (French Parc du Château d'Eau ), whose territory is 14 acres. Old trees grow in this garden. A rose garden has been created with an area of 450 square meters [3] . Often this park is called not only the park, which is located near the water tower, but also the appeal court park, which is located nearby. In the park in 1907, a monument was erected at the southern entrance in honor of the sculptor Auguste Bartholdy . Some mahogany species and bog cypress grow in the park. The park has a large number of different benches [4] .
