Biography

Kevin Wertman was born February 22, 1969 in Sogas, Essex County , Massachusetts , USA . He was one of six children with his parents Frederick and Susan Wertman.

He began to seriously engage in hockey after graduating from high school, enrolling in the American International College in Springfield - he was a member of the local student hockey team, having played three full-time seasons in it.

In the 1989 NHL draft, he was selected in the eighth round under a total 168 number club Calgary Flames . He made his professional debut in the 1991/92 season as part of the Salt Lake Golden Eagles team, playing in the International Hockey League, where he spent about two years. Ken Mackenzie Trophy received the award as the most outstanding rookie of American descent, was elected to the second symbolic team of all the stars of the league. Twice ranked fourth in the team in terms of points.

He spent the 1993/94 season at the St. John Flames of the American Hockey League . He was also finally called up to Calgary to participate in the National Hockey League , although in total he went to the ice in the NHL in only five games of the regular season, without scoring a single point.

As a free agent, in the summer of 1994 he signed a contract with the San Jose Sharks team and then spent one season at the Kansas City Blades affiliate with her, returning to the International Hockey League.

In the 1995/96 season, he represented another MHL club called Fort Wayne Comets.

In 1996, he went to Finland to play for the UP team from Jyväskylä , spent three seasons in the Finnish SM League .

Then, in the period 1999-2001, he played for the German clubs Schwenninger Wild Wings and Essen Mosquitos in the German Hockey League .

Last played on a professional level in the 2001/02 season as part of the Austrian Vienna club in the Austrian Hockey League . At the end of this season, he decided to end his sports career and returned to his homeland.

He died on April 11, 2018 in Sogas at the age of 49 years [1] .
