History and Description
The first church in Delmenhorst supposedly stood on the site of today's Market Square and was destroyed in 1538; a half-timbered temple was built in its place. In 1614, Count Anton II laid the first stone in the foundation of a new church, the construction of which was completed in 1619; probably, the sculptor Ludwig Munsterman, who made the altar and the pulpit, took part in the decoration of that building. In 1789, a new building was built for the temple, the walls of which have survived to the present day [1] . The bell tower, whose height reaches 54 meters, was added to the building with its expansion from 1908, and the portal was moved from the south to the west. In 1967, the interior of the City Church of the Holy Trinity, including the altar, was redesigned and acquired its present appearance, with the exception of the stained - glass windows of the choir , created in 1988.
A small stone sculpture on the south wall, made in about 1570-1600 and depicting the risen Christ , is an epitaph (memorial stone) and, most likely, was transferred to the temple from the Delmenhorst castle church.
