Biography
The son of a preacher of the Parish Church in Berlin. From 1787 he studied theology and pedagogy at the University of Brandenburg in Frankfurt an der Oder . In 1788 he moved to Halle University , where he attended the lectures of August German Niemeyer , Georg Christian Knapp , Christian Fürhtegott Gellert , Johann Caspar Lafater and others.
Returning to Berlin, he worked at a private school for 6 years.
He was ordained in 1798. He was a pastor , taught the Law of God at the Noble Institute for the Queen Louise Maidens, later participated in the school commission and was a member of the congress of preachers, chaired by F. Schleiermacher .
Among the 13 pastors, W. Wilmsen sharply opposed the new prayer book , issued by order of the king.
He was engaged in literary work. The author of many works in the field of pedagogy, practical theology and edifying, moralizing literature.
He died in 1831.
