Biography
Born on October 11, 1931 in Moscow [1] .
He has been working at the Geological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences since 1959, and is currently the chief scientific officer of the laboratory of paleomagnetism in the tectonics department. [2] In 1974, he defended his doctoral thesis on the topic “Deformations of the Paleozoic geosynclinal systems (Tianshan Varistscids and Caledonids of Northern Europe)” . [3]
He participated in field work in the Tien Shan, Pamir, Caucasus, Kamchatka, the Urals and the Carpathians. In 1950-1970 he studied the tectonics of the Tien Shan; in the 1980s, by the origin and kinematics of the structural arcs of the Alpine folded belt. In the 1990s he explored the kinematics of microcontinents and island arcs; after 2000 - tectonics and geodynamics of continental blocks and oceans of Central Asia.
Awards and prizes
In 2014, he was awarded the VA Obruchev Prize for a series of two monographs under the common title “Tectonics and Geodynamics of the Tien Shan and High Asia in the Phanerozoic”.
Membership in organizations
