Victor Glebovich Verstakov ( December 20, 1951 , the village of Vetrino, Polotsk district , Vitebsk region ) is a Russian writer and journalist, author of many popular poems and songs on the theme of the Afghan War (1979) . Member of the Union of Writers of the USSR , Secretary of the Board of the Union of Writers of Russia , member of the Board of the Moscow Union of Writers . Laureate of literary prizes named after: Boris Field Prize “Tradition” 1995, named “Alexander Twardowski” 1996, “Andrei Platonov” 1998, “Konstantin Simonov” 2001, “Mikhail Lermontov” 2005, “Imperial Culture” 2005 [1] .

Biography
Born on December 20, 1951 in the village of Vetrino, Vetrinsky district, Vitebsk region . Father - Verstakov Gleb Viktorovich, officer. In World War II he was a tanker . He was wounded, shell-shocked, burned in a tank. From the ranks of the Armed Forces quit the colonel . Verstakov's mother ( Shapovalov’s maiden name ) Nina Pavlovna, a native of the Tver peasant family, married Gleb Viktorovich in 1947.
Victor Verstakov’s childhood passed in the garrisons of the USSR Armed Forces and in Germany , where Victor went to school and began to write the first poems in which he imitated Sergei Yesenin . Victor studied at the music school in the accordion class.
In 1968, after graduating from high school, he entered the Moscow Aviation Institute . In the 2nd year, he left him of his own free will and in 1970 entered the Dzerzhinsky Military Engineering Academy. In the same year he published his first poems: in the Shui newspaper “The Banner of Communism” now “Shui News” and in the newspaper of the Moscow Military District “Red Warrior”.
At the end of the Military-Political Academy named after V.I. Lenin and short service in the SA , he began his career in the military department of the newspaper "Pravda" , where he worked for twelve years. Repeatedly went on a business trip to Afghanistan . He wrote a lot of reports and essays.
He was awarded the medal "For Military Merit" , the order "Badge of Honor" and the medal "For Strengthening the Military Commonwealth" (2000).
Creativity
Wrote a collection of poems "Tradition" (M., "Contemporary"). Poems and journalism of Viktor Verstakov were translated into German, Bulgarian, Polish. The author of popular songs about the Afghan war (1979-1989).
Songs were written to many verses by Viktor Verstakov, the music of which was performed by the poet himself. V. Verstakov’s songs were recorded in a number of records, including a collection of four discs “Time chose us” (Tashkent, Melody firm, 1987).
The songs, performed by Viktor Verstakov, were sounded on Central Television in 1991 when the film “Officer Romance” was shown.
In the period 1989-1994, he served as head of the Military Art Studio of Writers at the USSR Ministry of Defense.
Author of many popular poems and songs on the theme of the Afghan war (1979) , including: A star is burning over the city of Kabul, From the flame of Afghanistan, The last battalion leaves Kabul and others [2] .

- He is the author of 15 books of poetry, prose and journalism, which are devoted to the heroism and life of warriors, and many famous songs. He wrote a lot of "Afghan" songs.
