History
The museum was founded by the Decree of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and the Council of Ministers of the BSSR on August 16, 1956, open to visitors on December 4, 1959. It is located in the house where the poet Yakub Kolas lived from the end of 1944 until his death on August 13, 1956. Kolas settled in a house located in the garden of the Academy of Sciences of the BSSR , after the liberation of Minsk. By the 70th anniversary of the poet, in 1952, a new building was erected on the foundation of the old house according to the project of the architect G. Zaborsky [1] [2] .
Architecture
The building was erected in the style of Stalinist neoclassicism . The building is small, two-story, brick, rectangular in plan. The main facade is symmetrical. On the axis of symmetry is the entrance, decorated with a semicircular pediment. The ends of the building are decorated with symmetrical trihedral bay windows. Pilasters, columns, profiled cornices, stucco moldings were used in the decoration of the facade. An earlier residential building has been preserved in the side of the courtyard facade. The exposition halls are located inside, the situation on the second floor where the poet lived remains the same as during his lifetime. The wooden staircase to the second floor is decorated with a stained-glass window by the artist V. Pozniak [1] .
