John Shankaramangalam

John Shankaramangalam ( Malayal. ജോൺ ശങ്കരമംഗലം ; July 16, 1934, Erawiperur - July 30, 2018, Tiruvalla ) is an Indian filmmaker and screenwriter who made films in Malayalam . At various times, he served as director of the Indian Institute of Film and Television , deputy chairman of the and rector in Changanacherri. Winner of two National Film Awards and four [5] .

Biography

Born July 16, 1934 in the village of near Thiruvananthapuram [5] . He was educated in and in Chennai. At 19, he received the post of lecturer in the latter, but later quit his job to join in 1962, where he subsequently received a diploma in directing and writing scripts [6] [7] .

His first work experience in the film industry was to write the script for the Tamil film Jayasree [7] . His directorial debut, Janmabhoomi ( Rus. Homeland ) won the Nargis Dutt Award for Best Film on National Unity in 1970 [8] . In the following years, he made films Avalapom Vaikippoyi (1971), Samantharom (1985) and Saaramshom (1994), as well as many documentaries for the film department and the state government [6] . In 1977, he directed Samadhi , a documentary about B.K. S. Iyengar , which earned him a film award for his best experimental film. [9]

John Shankaramangalam passed away July 30, 2018 at the private hospital of the College of Medicine in . He was 84 years old. He left his wife Mariamma John, daughter Annie and son Sudarshan [6] .
