Holzen Monastery ( Kloster Holzen ) is a former Benedictine monastery located in the Bavarian community of Allmanshofen and belonging to the diocese of Augsburg . According to local legends, the monastery was founded in 1150 by Marquard von Donnersberg, and since the beginning of the 13th century it was called Neuwasser. Today in the territory of the former monastery there is an institution for people with disabilities. The famous monastic baroque church of John the Baptist, built in 1704, continues to attract tourists traveling along the Romantic Road .
