El Aliya ( Arabic: العالية ) is a city and commune in eastern Algeria , in the province of Ouargla . It is part of Al-Hajir County .

Geographical position
The city is located in the northwest of vilayet, on the territory of one of the oases of northern Sahara , at a distance of approximately 487 kilometers southeast of the capital of Algeria . The absolute height is 108 meters above sea level [1] .
The municipality of El Aliyah borders on the communes of Ouargla , Ngus , El Hajir , Temasin , Nezla , Touggourt , Megarin and Sidi Slieman , as well as the territories of the Wilayet el-Oued , Biskra and Djelfa . Its area is 6589 km².
Climate
The climate of the city is characterized as arid hot ( BWh in the Köppen climate classification ). Precipitation during the year is extremely low (average annual amount - 54 mm). The average annual temperature is 21.9 ° C. The average temperature of the coldest month (January) is 10.5 ° С, the hottest month (July) is 33.9 ° С [2] .
Population
According to the official census of 2008, the population of the commune was 7509 people. The proportion of the male population was 50.8%, the female - 49.2%, respectively [3] . The literacy rate of the population was 69.9%. The literacy rate among men was 80.6%, among women - 58.8% [4] . 4.6% of Al-Aliya residents had higher education, 14.3% had secondary education [5] .
