History
Adolph House was built around 1350. Now it is considered one of the oldest surviving urban buildings [2] .
In 1371, the owner of the house was Dietrich Roshart (Fr. Dietrich Röschart ), who rented the house to Henemann Teinheim (Fr. Henemann Teinheim ). In 1412-1416 heinrich Zekkel (Fr. Heinrich Seckel ) owned the house. In 1422 - Hans Hamperly (Fr. Hans Humperly ). In the years 1426-1459 the house was the property of Mr. Muller (Fr. Müller ). In the years 1470-1471, Major Claus Wurmlin (Fr. Claus Würmlin ) lived in this house [5] .
In 1539 the house belonged to the widow of Major Ludwig Hooch (Fr. Ludwig Hutsch ), and then his son-in-law. In 1548 the house was the property of Major Ruprecht Krigelstein, in 1584 it already belonged to the hospital director Johann Roggenstroy. From 1602 to 1615 - the property of Jonatas Ritter, and belonged to his family until 1647. From 1647 to 1657, it was owned by the shoemaker Andreas Herbert. In 1680-1639, the house was owned by Martin Steffan, then belonged to the municipal collector Lefebourg. The last private owners of the house were the Adolf family, in particular Augustus Adolph - a trader in tapes. He was a native of Cohenheim and made the purchase of a house in 1824. On March 10, 1921, the city council bought a house from one of the Adolphs for subsequent restoration [5] . And although Augustus Adolf was not the builder of the house, this name stuck to the building. The Adolf family made some changes to the exterior of the house, removing the Gothic windows at the end of the 19th century. Preserved windows of the end of the XIV century with pointed windows. They clearly show how religion influenced urban construction and architecture [2] .
The first three floors of the house were built in the XIV century, the two upper floors - later [3] .
Near the house of Adolf built another attraction - the well of 1592, which is topped with two lion heads [2] .
Adolf House is located on Cathedral Square. Next to him is the house of the police guard (Fr. Ancien corps de garde ) [3] .
