Biography

Madeline Edmunds was born on January 3, 1992 in Southport , Queensland , Australia . The daughter of the famous Australian rower Ian Edmunds , bronze medalist of the 1984 Olympic Games. She spent her childhood in Brisbane , where from a young age she was engaged in academic rowing in one of the local clubs [1] .

She made her debut on the international arena in the 2008 season when she joined the Australian national team and performed at the World Championships in Linz , where she participated in junior doubles races.

In 2009, she won a silver medal in the fours at the world junior championship in France. A year later, at similar competitions in the Czech Republic, became the fourth in twos.

In 2011, she performed for the first time at the adult World Cup, visited the youth world championship in the Netherlands.

It was the best in the fours at the 2012 World Youth Championship in Lithuania.

Starting from 2013, she played in the main lineup of the Australian team at the adult level, in particular, she became one of the winners at three World Cup stages, including winning the home stage in Sydney and participating in the World Championships in Chungju .

In 2014, she won again at the World Cup stage in Sydney, was close to being among the winners in the world championship in Amsterdam , having shown the fourth result in the fours of the pairs.

At the 2015 World Championships in Egbieleth, she finished in four of the fifth.

Thanks to a series of successful performances, she won the right to defend the honor of the country at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro - as part of the team, which also included rowers Jessica Hall , Kerry Horse and Jennifer Cleary , took the final seventh place in the women's doubles fours program.

After the Olympics, Edmunds remained in the main lineup of the Australian rowing team and continued to take part in major international regattas. So, in 2017, she, together with Olympia Alders, won a bronze medal in twos at the World Championships in Sarasota.

Subsequently, she performed mostly alone, in particular, she started in this discipline at the 2018 world championship in Plovdiv [2] .
