History
During the Russo-Turkish War (1768-1774), which ended with the Kuchuk-Kainardzhiysky world , Marshal Pyotr Rumyantsev-Zadunaysky - commander of the Russian occupation forces in Moldova and Wallachia - took measures to organize the economy and taxes in these principalities. He initiated the minting of coins for circulation in these provinces, which were called Sadogur.
In 1770, a mint was founded on the estate of Baron Nikolai Gartenberg (Sadogursky) in the city of Sadagur , located near the city of Chernivtsi , on which coins with a face value denominated in Turkish ( pairs ) and Russian currency units ( money and kopecks ) were minted.
Features
Before these coins were put into circulation, in 1771, a series of trial coins was minted with the monogram of Empress Catherine II [1] , after which the design bearing the emblems of the two principalities on the obverse was officially approved, and the face and year of issue on the reverse [1] . The material for the manufacture of coins was bronze smelted from guns captured from the Turkish army.
Appeal
In 1771, the first coins were issued for circulation with a face value of 1 pair - 3 money, which had on the obverse the image of the emblems of the two principalities, and on the reverse the face value and year, as well as trial coins [2] .
Sadogurian coins were distributed both in Moldova and in Wallachia in 1772-1774, and after the withdrawal of Russian troops from the Romanian principalities in 1774, they gradually went out of circulation.
