Career
Born and raised in Manhattan Beach . While studying at the University of San Diego , played basketball and volleyball. Despite the fact that Dodd was selected in the 9th round of the 1979 NBA draft in the San Diego Clippers club, he chose beach volleyball as a sports career [1] .
Dodd first started playing beach volleyball at the age of 10, at the age of 16 he received an AAA license, which allowed him to participate in professional tournaments. In 1981, a place with Tim Hovland , won the State Beach Men's Open. It was the first title for Dodd and Hovland, with which he will play for almost 10 years. In addition to participating in AVP tournaments, the duo represented the US team and played in the Italian league from 1982 to 1984 and in 1986.
In his 18-year career, Dodd has become one of the most successful beach volleyball players. Taking part in 353 tournaments, he took place on the podium 231 times and was in the top 4 297 times. Together with Whitmarsh, he became the silver medalist of the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta , where he was awarded for the first time in beach volleyball. In total, Dodd and Whitmarsh played 106 tournaments together, winning 17 of them.
Dodd repeatedly won awards of the AVP tournament series, he was called the athlete of the year in 1994 and 1996, the most inspiring AVP player (from 1995 to 1997) and the best AVP defender (from 1994 to 1997) [2] .
The 1997 season marked the end of Dodd’s competitive career, although he was still very active in beach volleyball tournaments as a commentator, analyst, coach and even AVP commissioner. In 2000, Dodd was inducted into the California Beach Volleyball Association Hall of Fame [3] .
Dodd coached Americans Shawn Gibb and Jake Rosenthal for a long time, representing the US team at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and the 2012 London Olympics, culminating in a coaching career was the championship of Gibb and Rosenthal in the 2012 world beach volleyball tour .
In 2012, he turned off at the International Volleyball Hall of Fame [4] .
Personal life
He is married to volleyball player Petty Orozco, has two children [5] .
