Amata Kabua ( eng. Amata Kabua ; , - , ) - Marshall Islands statesman, first president of the Marshall Islands from 1979 to 1996 (rules five presidential terms). Died while in office after a long and prolonged illness in the Hawaiian Islands . The successor of Amata Kabua as president was his cousin Imath Kabua .

Biography
Descended from the royal family of the Marshall Islands.
Began his career as a school teacher. Then he became the head of Majuro, and later, after granting limited autonomy to the islands, he became the president of the country. He sought to grant Marshall Islands independence, which happened in 1986. He is also the author of the words and music of the Marshall Islands Forever Marshall Islands hymn .
