Biography

Akim Karpov was born in 1767. He entered the service as a Cossack in 1782 and spent the first years on the Caucasian line , participating in continuous skirmishes with the highlanders and in expeditions to the Kuban and Chechnya .

Produced in 1796 as prime majors, Karpov in 1797 was instructed to form the first 2 companies of the Don horse artillery and was appointed its commander. With these companies, he participated in 1801 in the famous campaign of the Don Cossacks in India , stopped near the city of Orenburg by the news of the death of Emperor Paul.

In 1804, already with the rank of colonel (from 1799), Karpov with company No. 1 returned to the Caucasus again and, commanding her, took part in the war with Turkey in 1806 and distinguished himself: in 1807 near Zhurzhev ( Order of St. Vladimir 4 degrees with a bow), during the assault of the impregnable fortifications on the Danube, Malaynitsy and Subic, during the destruction of enemy ships on the Danube by the fire of their artillery, in the defeat of the vizier. He was awarded the Order of St. George 4th Class No. 810 on November 26, 1807 :

 In retribution of the excellent courage and courage shown in the battle against the Turkish troops on June 19 at the village of Manailaki. 

December 29, 1809 Akim Akimovich Karpov was granted the rank of Major General . He participated in 1808 - in various expeditions under Brailov, in the capture of Girsov and Kyustendzhi (the golden saber), in the battles of Rassevat (rank of Major General) and Tataritsa (Order of St. Vladimir, 3rd art.); in 1810 - during the capture of Silistra and Ruschuk, during the blockade of Shumly, in the battle of Batin and in 1811 - over the Danube, in movement to the Balkans. Then put at the head of the first 8, and then 10 Don Cossack regiments of the 2nd Western Army.

He took an active part in all the most important military clashes during the Patriotic War of 1812 from the World to the Berezina and for military differences in them was awarded the Order of St. George of the 3rd class No. 299 on June 3, 1813 :

 As a reward for the excellent courage and courage shown in the battle against the French troops on November 4-6, 1812 near Krasnoye. 

He fought at Glogau, Dresden, Bautzen (a golden saber with diamonds), Katzbach (order of St. Vladimir, 2nd art.), Leipzig, Lines, S. Dizier, Brienne-le-Chateau, La Rotier (rank of lieutenant general), Montmiral , Châtotieri, Kraon, Laon, Ferschampenoise and Paris.

At the end of the war, Karpov was appointed commander of the entire Don equestrian artillery and remained in this position until 1817, when he was sent to be a military noble deputy in the position of noble provincial leader .

In 1819 he was appointed a member of the committee on the organization of the Don army. In 1820, Karpov was relieved of all posts and retired on March 11, 1836 .

Akim Akimovich Karpov died on March 26, 1837 and was buried in the family crypt at the Church of the Three Saints in the Dyachkina settlement of the Donetsk district of the Don Army.

Rewards

  • He was awarded the orders of St. Alexander Nevsky, St. Vladimir 2nd degree, St. Anna 1st degree with diamonds, orders of St. George 4th and 3rd classes, as well as the Prussian Order of the Red Eagle 2nd degree.
  • He was awarded two gold sabers “For courage” (one with diamonds).
