Born 1025/1029 Son Zhero I and his wife Adelaide.
He quarreled with Archbishop of Lyon Humbert, for which he was excommunicated by Pope Gregory VII in 1076 at the Cathedral of Worms . Repented, after which he lost the last remnants of power in the city of Lyon. After the death of Humbert, he gave up half of his rights of payment (payment for the passage of territory) in the county of Lyon to the Abbey of Cluny .
In 1077 he made his son Guilom his co-regent.
He died between May 14, 1078 and December 6, 1079.
From no earlier than 1045 and no later than 1056, Arto IV was married to Raymond, the origin of which is not clear (perhaps from a clan of the graphs of Guin). Two of their children are known:
- Guillaume , died in 1097 near Nicaea during the First Crusade
- Ita-Raymond, wife of Renault II Neversky , then (after the divorce) Giga-Raymond d'Albona. Their son Guy in 1115 inherited the counties of Fore and Lyons.
