Herberton is a city in the northeastern part of the Australian state of Queensland . The city population was estimated at about 855 people for 2016 . The city is part of the Tablelands region , whose population is 45,300 people ( 2008 ).

Geography
Herberton is located at an altitude of 918 meters above sea level on the Atherton Plateau. The city is located on the Great Dividing Range .
History
In 1875, explored the area in an attempt to find gold, but instead he found tin here. On April 19, 1880, John Newell founded the city of Herberton to exploit the tin found in Europe. Tin mining began on May 9 of that year. By September 1880, 300 men and 27 women lived in Herberton. The first post office in Herberton opened on November 22, 1880 [1] . In December 1881, a public school was founded. The first city library was opened in 1995, and in 2016 it was thoroughly repaired [2] .

Tin mining ceased at Herberton in 1985.
