Description and History
The institution was located in a building on the corner of Linden Street and Adams Avenue, which was built no later than the 1920s: then there was a store of auto parts, children's toys, radios and household goods [1] .
In the years of its existence it was considered the center of culinary culture of Scranton. The restaurant's owners touted it as the venue for "the best steak and seafood in the center of Scranton ." The company closed in 2012 after thirty years of operation [2] .
In the last years of its existence, it gained great fame due to the mention in the comedy television series Office [3] . The series was shot in Scranton, and the restaurant appears in the fifth episode of the first season (Basketball): according to the plot of the series, the players of the losing team in a basketball game pay for the winners' lunch in Farley's pub. Actor Steve Carell , who played the role of Michael Scott in this NBC comedy television series , in additional DVD material for the series, said he would personally fly to Scranton again to “cut the ribbon” if Farley will place “Michael Scott Burger” in his menu [4] . Such a burger was in fact subsequently added [5] .
On May 13, 2001, an American actor Jason Miller died of a heart attack in a restaurant [6] .
In 2014, a new catering business called City Market & Cafe was opened on the site of the former restaurant. [one]
