Argunov, Pavel Alexandrovich

Pavel Alexandrovich Argunov ( September 5 (17), 1862 , Irkutsk - March 11, 1944 , Moscow ) - Russian revolutionary, journalist, historian. One of the founders of the Society of Translators and Publishers (1882-1884).

Biography

Born in the family of an official of the Department of Mining and Salt Affairs . In 1881 he graduated from high school in Irkutsk and entered Moscow University [1] .

He studied first at the medical faculty, then transferred to the law, where in August 1882, together with other students, he created the secret "Society of Translators and Book Publishers" [2] [3] , which distributed forbidden Western literature, in particular, the works of Marx and Engels [4] .

In 1884, the police entered the organization and began arrests. Argunov was expelled from the university and was in prison until mid-1886. On September 28, 1886, at the highest command, he was sent to Eastern Siberia [2] [3] for five years [5] . He served a link in Uzhur , Shushensky , Minusinsk [5] [6] . In 1887 he was sentenced to two weeks imprisonment for insulting the Tomsk vice governor [6] .

During his stay in Siberia, he was published in local publications, worked at the Minusinsk Museum [7] , prepared a description of local agriculture - "Essays on Agriculture in the Minusinsk Territory and an Explanatory Catalog of the Agricultural Department of the Minusinsk Museum" (1892) [5] [6] .

At the end of the exile he went to live in different cities of the Russian Empire, until he settled in Saratov [1] [5] . It began to be published in the Saratov Diary and the Saratov Leaflet, soon becoming one of the editors of the publication. For publications I used the pseudonym "My" [1] .

After the revolution, he was able to continue his education and in 1921 he graduated from the University of Saratov . In 1925 he received the title of assistant professor . In 1941, he joined the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR [5] [6] .
