Simple Network Paging Protocol ( Russian simple network paging protocol , abbreviated SNPP ) - a network protocol designed to send messages to pagers on computer networks (over TCP / IP ). Described in RFC 1861 [1] . To send messages on mobile networks directly to the pager, another protocol is used - TAP ( ) [2] [3] , SNPP was developed by PageMart in 1997 in order to provide corporate clients with the service of sending messages to a pager from a personal computer via an Internet gateway [4] . The protocol is also often used for messaging between TAP servers [5] .
The port 444 is standard for SNPP servers. The protocol uses a text format of commands, each command must end with a carriage return and newline code. It is relatively easy to connect to the SNPP server through a telnet client [4] [6] . The Net::SNPP [7] [8] CPAN module is available for use in perl scripts.
A further development of this protocol is the WCTP ( Wireless Communications Transfer Protocol ) protocol , which uses XML - format packets and implemented over HTTP [6] .
