History
The settlement from which the city later grew was founded in 1556. The municipality of Chivat was separated into a separate administrative unit in 1976 [1] .
Geographical position
The city is located in the central part of the department, in the highlands of Eastern Cordillera , east of the Chulo River, about 5 kilometers east of the city of Tunja , the administrative center of the department. The absolute height is 2932 meters above sea level [2] .
The municipality of Chivat borders in the north with the territory of the municipality of Tut , in the northeast - with the municipality of Toka , in the southeast - with the municipality of Syachok , in the south-west - with the municipality of Sorak , in the west - with the municipality of Tunha, in the north-west - Municipality of Oikat . The area of the municipality is 56 km².
Population
According to the National Administrative Department of Statistics of Colombia, the total population of the city and municipality in 2015 was 6,199 people [3] . The dynamics of the population of the municipality by years:

According to the 2005 census, men accounted for 50.6% of the population of Chivat, women - 49.4%, respectively. Racially, whites and mestizos accounted for 98.5% of the city's population; Negroes , mulattoes and Raysals - 1.3%; Indians - 0.2% [4] . The literacy rate among the entire population was 85.4%.
Economics
66.7% of the total number of urban and municipal enterprises are trade enterprises, 25.6% are service enterprises, 7.8% are industrial enterprises [4] .
