History

The development of the coat of arms began in 1892 and lasted for a year. By the end of 1893, a Maltese cross pierced with a crown was placed above the shield between the two stalks of the sugarcane .

In 1902, the heraldic depiction of the British imperial crown was standardized for the (symbolic) Tudor crown. After 1953, it was switched to the image of the actual crown of St. Edward.

The last addition to the coat of arms at the moment was made in 1977 , during the Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II : animal supporters were added. The red deer, the classic heraldic animal representing the old world, and the Australian crane , symbolizing the indigenous peoples [1] .

Industry Symbols

The symbols on the shield represent the richest industries in Queensland . The origins of its grain industry go away in 1788, when, at the initiative of Governor Philip, convicts brought from England worked on farms [2] . In the period up to 1795, the grain industry gradually gained popularity and by the end of the 19th century became a strong branch of Australia’s agricultural industry. The sugar industry was founded in 1868 in Mackay , four years after the opening of the first commercial sugar factory in Cleveland, south of Brisbane [3] . Sugar and coffee legislation was introduced by parliament later that year, as the industry quickly spread, and with the creation of the Central Production Company of the sugar factory, ten years later, in 1878, the sugar industry reached its colonial peak [4] .
