Biography

Born on October 5, 1856 in Karlsruhe in the family of the court preacher and theologian .

At the age of four, he moved with his father to the city of Halle , where he studied at school. He became interested in mining science and went to the Rhine region to gain practical experience in coal mines there. Then he continued his education at the University of Halle , the Berlin Academy and the University of Berlin. Humboldt and graduated in 1881 at the Oberbergamt Halle . While studying in 1877, he became a member of the Sängerschaft Fridericiana (Halle) fraternity.

Beyshlag then worked as a mining engineer and received a Ph.D. He was engaged in popularizing the latest achievements of geology, creating for this a model - a section of the earth's crust. He became an associate of and worked with him in the Berlin Mineral Collection ( Berliner Mineraliensammlung ).

In 1883, he became a district and, in 1889, a land geologist. On January 5, 1888, Franz Beixlag was elected a member of the Leopoldin Academy of Sciences (registration number 2713) and until 1901 he was mainly engaged in the preparation of geological maps and was one of the most significant cartographers of his time. Since 1892, Beishlag lectured at the Berlin Mining Academy ( Bergakademie Berlin ), which, thanks to him, along with the Freiberg Mining Academy , became the second center of mining science in Germany.

In 1898 he was appointed professor of geology. He became president of Preußische Geologische Landesanstalt as successor to the first director . Franz Beischlag created one of his most important works - a map of Germany’s useful deposits, consisting of 76 separate sheets. At the beginning of the 20th century, German government bodies insisted on the most accurate inventory of raw material deposits, primarily to determine the demand for heavy, and in particular, defense industry.

In 1912, a German scientist became a member of the Paleontological Society , until 1923 led the Preußische Geologische Landesanstalt . In addition, since 1883, he was a member of the , which he headed several times as chairman.

He died on July 23, 1935 in Berlin and was buried in the city cemetery .

His sons were: (1891-1961) - civil engineer and Bernhard ( German: Bernhard Beyschlag , 1900-1980) [2] - scientist, doctor of sciences.
