History and Description
Old Church
The old parish church of St. Margaret in Ahdorf is a Late Gothic church [1] , in the style of brick Gothic , with a cross vault and choir ; It is a prime example of the popular local destination Landshuter Bauhütte and was probably built around 1440 by followers of the famous Landshut architect Hans von Burghhausen. The basis for the periodization is the inscription on the bell tower "1440". In the Baroque era , the building was partially rebuilt, nevertheless retaining its Gothic elements. During the reconstruction, held in 1971, three late Gothic figures from the altars of the temple - the images of Mary, Barbara and Catherine - were combined. In addition, the church has a sculpture of St. Margaret, made of alabaster in 1440.
At the same time, the current building of the Old Margarita was not the first church in this area: the first mention of a Catholic church in the village of Ahdorf dates back to 1314. Researchers believed that the first wooden church existed here already in the X century. In addition to the main church building, a church cemetery with a Late Gothic chapel, built around 1500, has been preserved in Akhdorf, as well as an old cemetery wall and numerous forged grave crosses.
New Church
In the course of population growth that occurred in the region during the period of industrialization , by 1928 Ahdorf became part of the city of Landshut, and the old parish church no longer met the needs of the parishioners as early as the middle of the XIX century. Since the construction of a new temple for a long time could not take place for financial reasons, in 1889 the association for the construction of a new building was founded - the union was dissolved only in 1951. The creation of a concrete project for the future church was completed by the architect Heinrich Hauberrisser in 1906, and in August 1909 the foundation stone was laid in the foundation of the new parish church. The main construction work was completed by November 1911, although the building at that time completely lacked interior decoration . In connection with the exhaustion of financial resources and the beginning of the First World War , the interior decoration of the church dragged on until 1922: On November 19, Cardinal Michael von Faulhaber consecrated the church in honor of St. Margaret of Antioch .
"New Margarita" has a length of 55 and a width of about 20 meters - which is much more spacious than the previous building. The square tower-bell tower with a baroque dome adjoins the choir on the north side. The initial draft provided for an extensive painting of the internal church space, which was not executed for financial reasons. The main altar for the new cad was made, also according to a sketch by Hauberrisser, in 1913-1914 in Regensburg . In addition, the church has side altars, created in 1930 by the sculptor Jacob Adlhart of Hallein. The organ was built in 1937 by the Munich master Hans Haas.
