History
Church of Saint-Martin was built in the Gothic style in the XIII-XIV centuries. It is located on the [1] central [3] Cathedral Square in the city of Colmar. There is an opinion among city dwellers that the city church is a cathedral, although this is not entirely true, since there is no episcopal pulpit in the city of Colmar. In connection with the placement of the church on this square, the name of the square itself appeared - Sobornaya [1] .
In 1473, the altar composition Madonna in the Arbor of Roses was specially written for the Church of Saint-Martin. The author of the work was Martin Schongauer [2] . The painting has survived to our time and is the only dated work by Schongauer, which has survived to our time. It depicts a closed gazebo filled with roses, in which are located the Madonna and Child [4] . The background has a golden glow. Madonna's head is tilted to the side [5] . At the end of the XVIII century, the painting was not in the church of Saint-Martin, but in a Jesuit monastery for preservation (at that time, works of art depicting saints and kings were in danger) [6] . She is currently in the Dominican Church of Colmar.
The Saint-Martin Church has a unique spire, created in the Mongolian style in 1572 and covered with copper. The bypass of the choir also stands out and is made in a rather gloomy style [1] .
The roof of the church is gable tiled. The bell tower is three-tier, with lancet windows, which are fortified with buttresses [3] . The church is open daily from 8 to 18 hours [1] .
