Career

Bendori was born in Tel Aviv in 1928 and at the age of 13 began playing football at the Maccabi Tel Aviv Academy [2] . He was part of the Maccabi youth team, which in the mid-1940s won the youth championship [3] . In 1946, he was transferred to the main team and played in the club until the end of the 1959/60 season, winning six champion titles and six cups .

Bendori was also a player in the Israeli national football team, but played only four matches, as the main goalkeeper of the national team at that time was Yaakov Khodorov . Bendori played in the first match in the history of the Israeli national team - against the United States [4] , but then did not appear on the field in official matches until 1958, when, due to an injury, Khodorov played in two matches of the group stage of the 1958 Asian Games [5] . He played his last match for Israel against Poland in Wroclaw , in which Bendory conceded five goals and was replaced in the 64th minute. Israel lost with a score of 2: 7, and the match went down in history as the “Wroclaw shame” [6] [7] .

After leaving sports, Bendori coached several Israeli teams, but did not achieve much success [8] , and also worked as the director of the national team.

Beyond Football

At the age of 20, Bendori became a member of the Arab-Israeli war , fought in the detachment " Fox Samson ." He was wounded on the Egyptian front, near Iraq, Suwaidan, when his jeep was shelled. Bendory was hospitalized for several weeks and managed to recover before the tour of the US national team [9] [10] [11] . Playing for Maccabi Tel Aviv, Bendory worked for the Dan bus company [12] .
