Biography
James Mackintosh was born on August 9, 1930 in Detroit , USA . He studied at a local high school, at the University of Detroit, while at the same time he was seriously engaged in rowing in one of the clubs in Detroit.
He achieved the greatest success in his sports career in the 1956 season, when he joined the main team of the American national team and, thanks to a series of successful performances, was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the Summer Olympics in Melbourne . Being a rake in the team, which also included rowers John Welchley , John McKinley and Art McKinley , took second place in the men's oar wheelless fours program and thereby won a silver Olympic medal - in the finals, only the team from Canada passed the American crew.
After the Melbourne Olympics, the Macintosh remained part of the US rowing team for some time and continued to take part in various rowing regattas. So, in 1959 he won the standings of the American national championship in rowing in the standings of the twos. Together with Alan Pierrot and steering Harvey Kroll, he won the bronze medal in the oar steering deuces at the home Pan American Games in Chicago , losing to the teams from Uruguay and Argentina at the finish line.
For 30 years, he worked as an engineer at the General Motors test site in Milford.
He died on February 24, 2018 at the age of 87 years [2] .
