The period of entry into the army: August 13, 1942 - May 11, 1945 [4] .

Defense of the approaches to Grozny (08/14/1942 - 10/31/1942)

On September 10, 1942, the 10th Guards Rifle Corps, Major General I.T. Zamertsev, was transferred from the front reserve to the Grozny direction. The next day he went on the offensive from the area of the village of Chervlennaya and after fierce battles he knocked out the enemy from Mekenskaya and Alpatovo . With powerful tank counterattacks, the Germans managed to stop the further advance of parts of the corps, keep Ischera and keep the bridgehead on the right bank of the Terek , but this was achieved at the cost of huge losses. In these battles, the enemy lost up to 140 tanks and more than 2,100 soldiers and officers from the 13th and 23rd tank divisions. By the beginning of October, the front line in the Grozny direction had stabilized, but from time to time the Germans made attempts to expand the Ischera bridgehead.

  • The defeat of the German tank group in the Vladikavkaz region (11/06/1942 - 12/10/1942)
  • Fights in the mountains and access to the Kuban (01/15/1943 - 02/25/1943)
  • Fights on the Molochnaya River and access to the Dnieper (09/07/1943 - 08/08/1944)
  • Participation in the liquidation of the Nikopol bridgehead, the liberation of Bereslav, Kherson, Nikolaev, Odessa and the fighting on the Dniester (11/09/1943 - 08/18/1944)
  • Battles in Bessarabia, Romania and Bulgaria (08.19.1944 - 09.28.1944)
  • Fights in Yugoslavia and the capture of Belgrade (09/29/1944 - 10/20/1944)
  • The fighting in Hungary, the encirclement and capture of Budapest (10.16.1944 - 04/02/1945)
  • Fights in Austria and the capture of Vienna (04/03/1943 - 05/10/1945)

Parts of the corps celebrated Victory Day in Krems, located on the banks of the Danube River , in pursuit of retreating German troops.

Postwar History

On May 10, 1945, in the Baumgartenberg area, parts of the corps met with the advanced units of the American troops - the 11th Panzer Division . Until May 14, the corps received capitulating German troops located between parts of the corps and parts of the United States : the tank division Great Germany Division, the SS Panzer Division Dead Head and the Politsay Division , and collected and recorded trophy property. Having finished the reception of the surrendered German troops, the corps formations were garrisoned in the areas of Freistadt , Neumarkt , Pregarten , Kefermarkt and began combat training.

The directive of the Supreme Command Headquarters Headquarters No. 11098 dated May 29, 1945, the corps of the 46th Army from June 15, 1945 entered the Southern Group of Forces [5] .

In the fall of 1945, the corps was withdrawn to the territory of the USSR and became part of the Odessa Military District (headquarters in the city of Chisinau ) having three divisions:

  • 33rd Guards Mechanized Division - former 49th Guards Rifle Division , military unit 04130 ( Comrat ) until 1948
  • 59th Guards Rifle Division , military unit 35770 ( Tiraspol )
  • 99th Infantry Division , military unit 40303 (Dubosary).

On November 15, 1957, the 10th Guards Rifle Corps was reorganized into the 14th Combined Arms Army. Based on the merits of the 10th Guards Rifle Corps, by Order of the Minister of Defense of the USSR No. 01662 of November 3, 1967, the army was named the 14th Guards Combined Arms Army [6] .
