The crash of the Piper PA-46 Malibu over the English Channel is a plane crash that occurred on January 21, 2019 . At 20:23 GMT [1] near the Cascets lighthouse, in the Channel Islands area [2] , the Piper PA-46 Malibu aircraft, which operated a private charter flight on the Nantes – Cardiff route [1], disappeared from the radar screens of controllers . On board were pilot David Ibbotson ( born David Ibbotson ) and Argentinean football player Emiliano Sala .

Aircraft
The six-seater single-engine turboprop aircraft Piper PA-46 Malibu with tail number N264DB (serial number 46-8408037) is registered in the United States [3] . Made in 1984 . The Certificate of Airworthiness was issued on April 4, 1984 [4] .
Holocaust
Board N264DB, owned by football agent Willy Mackay [5] , departed from Airport at 20:15 CET [1] . At 20:20 GMT [6] [7] , flying at an altitude of 1,500 m near the island of Guernsey , the pilot requested an emergency landing [1] . At 20:30 GMT [6] [7] , flying at an altitude of 700 meters 13 kilometers from the island of Alderney , the plane disappeared from the radar screens [8] .
Search Operation
Almost immediately after losing contact with the aircraft, a search and rescue operation was launched by the joint forces of the British Channel Islands and France . On the first day of the search, it was not possible to find the wreckage of the plane or body. The weather prevented the night of January 21. There was fog over the site of a possible plane crash. Two aircraft and several boats were involved in the operation [9] .
On January 24, the police stopped searching for an aircraft, and on Sunday a private underwater search operation began. It was noted that they will last until the aircraft is found. Search funds were raised on the GoFundMe crowdfunding platform. In 2 days we managed to raise 300 thousand euros.
On January 30, they reported the discovery of two pillows from seats on the coast of France, namely from a missing plane.
On February 4, oceanographer David Myrns discovered the wreckage of a plane on which Sala was flying at the bottom of the English Channel near the Guernsey Island. Using a remotely controlled underwater video camera, one body was discovered, but at first it was not known whether it was the body of a football player or pilot [10] .
On February 7, 2019, it was officially announced that the found body belonged to Emiliano Sale [11] . On February 27, the search for the body of David Ibbotson began, but could not be found. At the moment, the pilot is reported missing.
