Biography

Bruno Zattler was born on April 17, 1899. He participated in the First World War . In 1919 he graduated from high school. He studied national economics and botany. In 1920 he joined the Erhardt volunteer corps, took part in the Kappovsky putsch . Since 1922, he worked as a seller of watches and silverware at the Wertheim Trade House in Berlin. In 1928 he entered the service of the criminal police of Berlin and soon became a commissioner for criminal cases. In 1931 he joined the NSDAP (party ticket No. 637 954) [1] . Since 1933 - an employee of the Gestapo . In the same year, he was appointed to the department’s leaders, who followed social democracy and other socialist movements. After the creation of the General Directorate of Imperial Security, he became the head of Division IV A 2 (saboteurs, anti-sabotage).

World War II

In 1940, he was involved in organizing the seizure of documents of international socialist organizations. Like other employees of the Board of Directors, it was a member of the Einsatzgruppen . He was the so-called ordinance officer of the Sonderkommando 7b. At the beginning of 1942 he became a Sturmbannfuhrer . Then he headed the Gestapo in Belgrade . In this position, he is responsible for the extermination of at least 8,000 Serbian Jews.

After the war

After the war, he fled through Linz to Germany, where he was hiding under a false name. He was arrested on August 11, 1947. He was detained in the NKVD prison in Berlin and in Moscow . On July 3, 1953, the Greifswald court sentenced him to life imprisonment for war crimes committed in Serbia. October 15, 1972 he died in custody under unclear circumstances [2] .
