Lebedev, Vitaly Ivanovich

He graduated with honors from the historical and philological faculty of PSPI named after V. G. Belinsky (1953) ^[1] , graduate school of the Institute of Russian History, USSR Academy of Sciences (1964).

He taught history at the Penza Regional College of Physical Education (1953-1956). He worked as an instructor in the propaganda and agitation department of the Penza regional committee of the Komsomol (1956). He taught at the PSPI them. V. G. Belinsky (1956-1995). Ph.D. (1967), associate professor (1983), professor (1993), head. Department of Patriotic History and Law (1985-1994), member of the dissertation council on historical sciences of the PSPI V. G. Belinsky (1993-1995). Chairman of the Volga Region Section of the Scientific Council of the USSR Academy of Sciences on Historical Demography and Geography (1991-1995), member of the Archaeographic Commission of the USSR Academy of Sciences, member of the Bureau of the Middle Volga Problem Association for the Study of Agrarian History (1984-1995), member of the Council of the Union of Local Lore of Russia from the Volga Region and chairman of Penza Branch of the Union of Local History of Russia (1990-1995).

He made an outstanding contribution to the study of the defensive structures of the Russian state of the XVI-XVIII centuries. He conducted field research in the Penza, Tambov, Ryazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Ulyanovsk, Samara, Volgograd regions, the Mordovian, Chuvash and Tatar republics ^[2] . He recreated the picture of the development and defense of the southeastern outskirts of the Russian state, established and specified the location and direction of the Kadom, Temnikov, Alatyr, Puz and Tetyush zones of the 16th century, Tambov, Kerensky, Verkhne-Lomovskaya, Nizhne-Lomovskaya, Insaro-Potizhskaya, Atemaro -Saransky, Korsunsky, Simbirsky, Zakamsky, Penza features of the XVII century., Tsaritsyno and Soksky lines of the XVIII century. He determined the location of strongholds planned for the construction of the Syzran line, proved that the Sengiley line did not exist. He founded a school of peasant studies in the city of Penza. He carried out specific sociological studies of collective farms and state farms to collect materials on labor, worldview, education, leisure, relationships between rural residents. He played a large role in the development of local history and the local history movement in the Penza region. He was a member of the Academic Council of the Penza Museum of Local Lore (since 1956). He participated in the Penza branch of the Soviet Culture Fund and the Penza branch of the All-Russian Society for the Protection of Monuments of History and Culture ^[3] .

He was awarded the badge "Excellence in Public Education" (1992) and the medal "Veteran of Labor" (1990). In memory of the historian, since 2000, the annual scientific and practical conference “Lebedev Readings” has been held at the Faculty of History of the PSPU (now IFF PSU). Research interests: Russian history, archeology, history of the peasantry, historiography, historical.
