Mandichevsky, Konstantin

Konstantin Mandichevsky ( Romanian: Constantin Mandicevschi , Ukrainian: Kostyantin Mandichevsky ; May 24, 1859 , the village of Bagrinovka , Bukovina , the Austrian Empire - December 14, 1933 , Chernivtsi ) - Austrian and Romanian teacher and librarian of Romanian origin. Brother Eusebius Mandichevsky .

The son of the Orthodox priest Vasily Mandychevsky, maternal nephew of church history professor Eusebius Popovich . He graduated from high school in Chernivtsi, studied at the Chernivtsi and Vienna universities. In 1884-1893 taught at the gymnasium in Suceava . Returning to Chernivtsi, in 1896-1918. was the director of the Orthodox Real School. In 1904, in connection with the anniversary events on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the death of Stephen the Great , he composed, based on folklore musical material, the words of the patriotic song “Cuckoo sings in Bukovina” ( roman. Cântă cucu-n Bucovina ) [1] , still popular in the Romanian part of Bukovina [2] .

After the transfer of Bukovina in 1918 under the control of Romania, Mandichevsky was appointed inspector, and then general director of schools in the region. In 1922-1930 he served as director of the library of the University of Chernivtsi, in 1924 he was elected vice president of the newly established Association of Librarians of Romania. In the last years of his life, he dealt with the musical heritage of his brother Eusebius, prepared a bibliography of his works and a biographical sketch [3] .

In addition to Konstantin and Eusebius, the family had several more brothers and sisters, including Erast (1860-1946) - a lawyer and George (1870-1907) - a composer and choral conductor.
