Jutta Lau ( German: Jutta Lau ; born September 28, 1955 , Wustermark ) is a German rower who played for the German Democratic Republic in the 1970s. Two-time Olympic champion, three-time world champion, winner of many regattas of national and international importance. Also known as rowing coach.

Biography

Jutta Lau was born on September 28, 1955 in the commune of Wustermark , East Germany . She was trained in Potsdam at the Dynamo Sports Club.

The first serious success at the international level was achieved in the 1974 season, when she entered the main team of the East German national team and attended the World Championships in Lucerne , from where she brought the gold dignity award won in the standings of the pair of fours.

In 1975, at the world championship in Nottingham she was again the best in the same discipline.

Thanks to a series of successful performances, she was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal - as a part of the team, which also included the rowers Anke Borchman , Viola Polai , Rosvita Zobelt and Liane Weigelt , took first place in the pair of fours and thus became Olympic champion

After the Montreal Olympics, Lau remained part of the GDR rowing team and continued to take part in major international regattas. So, in 1978, she started at the world championship in Karapiro , but could not get into the number of winners, showing in her discipline the fourth result.

In 1979, she won a gold medal in the pair of fours at the World Championships in Bled .

Being among the leaders of the East German rowing team, it successfully passed the selection for the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow - here, together with Sibylla Reinhardt , Jutta Ploh , Rosvita Zobelt and the helmsman Liane Boer , she again won the four doubles, thus becoming a two-time Olympic champion.

For outstanding sporting achievements she was awarded the Order of Merit to the Fatherland in bronze (1974), silver (1976) and gold (1980). Knight of the Order of the Banner of Labor , I class (1988) [1] .

Having completed her sports career right after the Moscow Olympics, later Jutta Lau worked for many years as a pair rowing coach in the German national team, in particular, she prepared the team for several Olympic games. In 2001, the International Rowing Federation was recognized as the best coach.
